Power to the People FAQ - Part 4

  • Feed-Forward Tension program:
To minimize inhibitory input into the muscles, what virtual lifting exercises should I do and when should I do them? Is there a program that trains the nervous system to give you superhuman strength? In PTP it said you can lift a car, but your muscles don't know how to.
  • Comrade Pavel, usefulness of bench presses?:
Are bench presses (flat or inclined) important in the martial arts?
  • Side presses vs. bent press:
I can see the benefits that bent presses offer the abs and flexibility. Which movement works the shoulders more? It seems if they both work the same for shoulder, then bent presses would be better.
  • 6 Week Russian Bench Press Program?:
I was bouncing around on the web today and came across and address about "The 6 Week Russian Bench Press Program" with an address attaching it to the Dragon Door site. Anyone know anything about it?
  • Push Press vs. Jerk: What's the difference?:
I've watched the Russian Kettlebell Challenge video at least 10 times by now (I think it's excellent!) I know it's a minor matter, but one thing I can't figure out is the difference between the push press and the jerk. For the life of me, I've replayed the video over and over on that section and cannot see a difference between the two lifts. What is the difference?
  • Bench vs side Press:
I just received my copy of Power to the People and can't wait to get started. Two questions: How much of a warm up should I do prior? I am more comfortable with the bench press than the side press, would it be OK to start with bench and move to side or should I just go for the side press to start?
  • Side Press (Negatives) Question:
When doing the lowering part of the side press, Pavel says to bring the weight down forcefully. Basically its a quick drop back to the starting position, so we DON'T lower the weight slowly, right?
  • Weighted Dips vs. Bench Press:
Does anybody know of a good link or discussion comparing the benefits of weighted dips vs. bench press?
  • Water Bottle Article?:
Pavel, is the article in MILO about blowing up "hot water bottles", the same as the breathing article you wrote for Powerlifting USA magazine?
  • Drill cycling vs. poundage cycling?:
I am a pretty advanced Finnish trainee aiming for more strength and maybe better body composition. I can train only M-W-F. I wonder if it would be possible to successfully train hard all the time without cycling the weights, but cycling the exercises (top sets always 5 reps with 6 Rep Max weights).
