Kettlebells FAQ - Kettlebell Cycling

  • Kettlebells and Deadlifts:
In your RKC book you state that KB training is at least as good for your back asdeadlifts. I am currently doing KB snatches and deadlifts during the sameworkout. I was thinking of dropping the deadlifts. Do you believe I can stillwork the same muscles only doing KB snatches?

  • SeasonalKettlebell cycling:
Will "Power to the People" during the winter and "RussianKettlebell Challenge" during the summer be a good cycle?

  • Can Isnatch Kettlebells every day?:
If I change up the intensity from session to sessions?

  • If I can mixKettlebell with Zdorovye:
I was hoping to mix Zdorovye with kettlebells. I figured I could be strong, lookmuscular, and have higher endurance.

  • Combining Olympic Lifting andKettlebell Training:
I am interested in KB training as "active recovery". I recentlyreceived my 36kg kettlebell. I can one hand "power clean" this bellfor reps without much trouble and the movement is just different enough Isuspect it will be therapeutic rather than merely additive in volume. Would youplease offer some comments and suggestions.

  • KettlebellCleans and Snatches Daily?:
I was wondering if I am working out with kettlebells close to 5 consecutive daysa week is it ok to perform high rep cleans and snatches every workout? I usuallydo these at the end of the work out varying the reps every set from 20-60 alongwith varying the number of sets and the amount of effort I put into each drill.

  • KettlebellStrength Lift and High Rep Ballistic Schedule:
I read in the "Russian Kettlebell Challenge" Book that you shouldperform the 5 rep strength lifts before the high rep ballistic swings/lifts inthe same workout. However, it has been suggested that high rep CC trainingshould be done in 2 week cycles with "Power to the People" strengthtraining. I would think that CC training is very similar to high rep kettlebellballistics.(?) I currently do CC training with some strength lifts added and Iplan on getting a kettlebell ASAP. Should the CC and the kettlebell high repballistics be done in two week cycles with PTP style kettlebell strength liftslike the side press and military press etc.?

  • Splittingup Kettlebell workouts :
I have a funky schedule since I work during the night time. I was wondering ifit is ok to split up my kettlebell workouts say, do presses and side presses inthe evening when I wake up and then do snatches and cleans when I get home?

  • Deadlifts +Kettlebells:
Currently I am working up to sets of 100 for kettlebell cleans on Mon. Wed. Fri.and doing heavy singles in the deadlift on Tue. Thurs. with kettlebell pressesdaily. Is it ok to do deadlift singles and kettlebell cleans on the same day? Orshould I keep the 2 separate?

  • MixingKettlebells with Bear:
Can kettlebells be interspersed with M-W-F Bear workouts without leading to over-training?

  • KettlebellTraining Frequency:
How often would one train with kettlebells? I would think it would take you awhile to recover since they take a lot out of you - similar to runningsprints.(?) Once or twice per week?

  • Kettlebell cycling:
One issue that I didn't find addressed in the "Russian Kettlebell Challenge"book or tape was the issue of cycling (i.e. PTP). At some point, does one needto take a few days off & start over, or does the constant varying of theload take care of this?

  • Kettlebell cycling(2):
i like to do some calisthenics and heavy bag and plyometrics. Should I put thoseas a third cycle or do the PTP and kettlebells in one cycle and the calisthenicsin the second two week cycle?

  • Two handKettlebell swing for conditioning after low rep workout?
In the kettlebell video Pavel demonstrates a exercise in which you grab thekettlebell with two hands and swing it from between the legs to a position overthe head. Could this exercise be done for high reps and used as a conditioningexercise after heavy low rep workout?
