Clubbell® Training FAQ - General Questions

  • What are Clubbells®?:
Just a quick question... I've been seeing a lot of talk on the forum about Clubbells®...What are Clubbells®? How do they differ from kettlebells?

  • Clubbells® vs plate-loading devices?:
The differences between a “plate-loading” device and the Clubbell® regarding safety, functionality, durability, and results.

  • Real world applications of Clubbell® workouts:
Guys, you need to try these Clubbells® to believe it. They are different enough from kettlebells to warrant doing both!

  • Are Clubbells® heavy enough?:
Are the Clubbells® heavy enough? I just would like some opinions of some experienced users. I know that they will be manufacturing both heavier and lighter Clubbells® in the near future.

  • Proper Clubbell® Implementation?:
Thank you for another great tool in the development of Clubbells®! I have been very pleasantly surprised how difficult they are to use. Before I start using them with clients and athletes I just wanted to run a few questions by you so that I can avoid any injuries.

  • Is the Clubbell® video worth buying?:
After messing with the Clubbells® this afternoon, I am wondering where best to go for more resources. Do you suggest Scott Sonnon's video?

  • Should I get one Clubbell® or two?:
I'm going to order the Clubbell®...Does anyone here highly recommend getting two?

  • Grip and forearms-- hitting all aspects:
I am (among other things) a grip and forearm training enthusiast. I have recently closed the #2 COC for the second time, and am eager to progress to bigger and better things. I am trying to put together a grip training routine that will address crushing grip, pinch grip and wrist strength. I'm looking to organize my training schedule.

  • Grip strength improvement using Clubbells®:
When I saw the claw exercise on your (Coach Sonnon's) site with Tony C. it made me think of this exercise.

  • Will the Clubbell® improve my golf game?:
I am a serious recreational golfer who looks for any edge. It seems that Clubbells® would be even better for golf than kettlebells, which I have used to add distance to my drives. I've played enough tennis to know that a powerful serve and a drive requires strength, flexibility and coordination. What's your take on this? I'm about to get a 2nd 1.5 pood KB, do you think a Clubbell® would be more beneficial?

  • Doing Turkish Getups with the Clubbell®?:
A very fine whole body exercise for the aspiring strong man and grip-meister is the Turkish Getup. For those unfamiliar with this little gem, it is quite simple: lie on your back, hold a weight at arms length above your head, elbow locked out, then stand up and lie back down. Easy in conception, difficult in execution.

  • Great article regarding Clubbells® and Bottoms Up Press (kettlebells):
The other day, we were discussing the Bottoms Up Press... well, Lemon has just written a great article about the Clubbells® carry-over effects on the BUP with the KB.

  • 3x a day Clubbell® training protocol:

  • Ballistic training dangerous for lower back?:
I have to admit, I'm a lost puppy. I recently read an article posted at cyberpump about ballistic training. The article was totally against ballistic type lifting, focusing on the Olympic lifts. How do you both (Coach Reeve, Coach Sonnon) feel about ballistic training?

  • Exercising with clubs - Wood vs metal, ideal beginner weight?:
About the clubs used in Pahlavani, it's said that they are made of walnut wood. Do your steel Clubbells® have any decisive advantage over the wooden ones? (By "decisive advantage" I mean one that would make the steel ones better than the wooden ones.) What weight is ideal for a beginner? Also, is it best to use a solid club or a plate-load device?
