Ab Exercise FAQ - Part 3

  • Pavelizer: Feeling it more in thighs than abs?:
It's been a week since I've been experimenting with the ab Pavelizer and I'm still having some trouble comrades. I seem to feel more effect on my thighs, pulling against the roller pads with my calves, compared to my abs. For every rep i also end up dragging my glutes closer towards the machine as i pull against the pads. Am I doing something wrong or is this a normal part of the technique?

  • Pavelizer: Optimal Rest/Work:
What is the optimum rest between Pavelizer sets? I'm doing 5/5, but want to speed the whole thing up to work it into a more comprehensive workout.

  • Pavelizer: Push down with feet or pull back?:
On the up movement with the Ab Pavelizer it sometimes feels like I'm pulling myself with my legs. As I pull against the rollers with my calves, it seems like I'm leveraging against/with the legs; does this mean I'm somehow activating the hip flexors?

  • Pavelizer: Sit all the way up or partial?:
Is the high point with your spine about 45 degrees off the ground as opposed to regular situps? When you are doing a set of Jandas, it says in the book that when you reach the 'upright position' exhale and relax AND THEN DO A NEGATIVE. How are you meant to get to relax IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION before doing a negative if the upright position is the point of highest tension?

  • Power breathing form: Press down with diaphragm?:
Do we have to press down with the diaphragm during power breathing?

  • Rotation of abdominal drills?:
Do you wait until you are able to do a full Janda sit-up (up&down) before you start rotating the ab drills? Right now, I can perform 5x5 negative Janda situps with my fists by my face like a boxer, however, a month has already passed. Do I rotate to another drill, or do I continue doing Jandas until I can do the full drill? If I do move on to another drill, will I lose the gains that I made and have to start at an easier level of Janda?

  • What are the best abdominal exercises for a super strong core?:
Jandas? Evil Wheel? Dragon Flags? Front SQ? Heavy Clean & Jerks?
